03/09/09: Barnes and Noble Hosts Author of New Book on Sustainable Business Strategy

CHAPEL HILL, NC - Sixty-five organizations and businesses are featured in a new book by Jonathan Estes called Smart Green: How to Implement Sustainable Business Practices in Any Industry and Make Money. Estes will sign copies of his new book at Barnes and Noble stores in New Hope Commons in Durham on March 19 and in Brier Creek Commons in Raleigh on March 24. Both signings will be held at 7 pm and will include a brief presentation by the author.

Estes, CEO of Strategic Measures Inc. in Chapel Hill, wrote Smart Green as a practical guide to show how leadership development and measuring your company’s achievements are vital tools for keeping the Earth and your bottom line healthy.

Frank Phoenix, partner in Greenbridge Developments, says, “Many feel the need to go green. Jonathan Estes in Smart Green turns this need into value and lays out the steps for going green. Read it and get ahead of your competition and the green movement sweeping the country.”

Entrepreneurs are the risk-takers of the business world. But today there’s a massive gap between what businesses have to offer and what environmentally conscious consumers want-namely, green products and services rendered with social equity in mind. Smart Green provides an analytical and verifiable model to help entrepreneurs fill this gap.

02/23/09: Center for Sustainable Enterprise Hosts Smart Green Book Release Reception and Lecture

CHAPEL HILL, NC - Jonathan M. Estes will sign copies of his new book, Smart Green: How to Implement Sustainable Business Practices in Any Industry and Make Money, after his presentation at UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School Monday, March 16 at 6 pm. The school’s Center for Sustainable Enterprise is hosting the presentation, which is free and open to the public, at Koury Auditorium on the UNC campus next to the Dean Smith Center. At the subsequent reception early release copies of the book will be available.

Mr. Estes, CEO of Strategic Measures, Inc., will present his model for creating more sustainable businesses that benefit the environment, the community and the bottom line. He will also highlight the importance of planning for sustainability in a down economy. The Pittsboro General Store Café, a locally-owned business that employs sustainable business strategies and uses local organic food, will cater the reception. The Café is also one of dozens of businesses and organizations featured in Smart Green.

Smart Green, available online March 16 and in stores March 30, shows business owners how to integrate leadership development, measurement, and guidance for proving the profitability of environmental sustainability decisions and developing a provable business case for companies inspired to develop new products or convert their existing products.

“Not since the heyday of the early dot-come era has there been so much energy and enthusiasm surrounding entrepreneurship,” Estes says. “Back then, everyone was scrambling to seize the opportunity to profit from the Internet boom. Today, everyone is scrambling to get in on the ground floor of the green boom-and cash in on the eco-conscious products, practices, and technologies we need to build a sustainable world.”
